Situation

A large University Medical Centre based in the city centre with outdated infrastructure, too small to service the growing population. The existing facility could no longer meet the demands of a growing regional population and required complete infrastructure redesign.

Challenge

Developing new infrastructure on the original city-centre location with limited space, while building capacity for future population needs and positioning the UMC as a large referral centre for the region.

Demand & capacity analysis

Grounded in demographics, epidemiology, new care delivery models, and the UMC's positioning as a referral centre.

A new national care delivery concept

Built on a deliberate split between acute care and elective care.

New national elective care concept

Designed from the ground up to serve planned, lower-complexity care at scale.

Site selection & capacity maximisation

A two-channel model maximising designed capacity across elective and acute care.
